Dear Island Avenue School Community,

            Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year and all that it promises for our students, staff, and families.   It is our mission here at Island Avenue to provide each child with the tools they will need to become not only good citizens but respected members of their community….the key to this is education in the form of reading, writing, communication, computing, problem-solving, gaining an appreciation for and participating in the arts, and in cultivating respect for one another. 

Our teachers at Island Avenue are dedicated leaders and educators who place a high priority on empowering all children to become active life long learners.  They hold high expectations of themselves, as well as their students, while maintaining a strong positive belief that everyone possesses inherent greatness. 

Our Island Avenue PTO is an active group of parents who generously contribute to all aspects of our school community.  They are committed to supporting, enhancing and enriching education through providing programs, projects, and extended activities connected to our core curriculum.

We are fortunate in education to be afforded the opportunity each fall to begin anew to reflect on what we have done well, and to enhance and improve what we do.  The staff at Island Avenue look forward to getting to know our newest members of the community and to working together with our families to make this school year the best it can be for our children.
