General Overview
Since school has started the first graders have been busy learning their way around their new school. They have made many new friends and are working on the routines of the classroom and following school rules.
We are beginning to build community within each classroom in various ways such as through morning meeting, getting to know you activities and establishing classroom jobs.
Science
Our first science unit will focus on the life cycle of the apple. Students will be involved in a variety of hands-on, cross-curricular activities. In October, we will be going to an apple orchard to culminate our unit.
Phonics and Math
We have started our phonics and math programs which involve review of kindergarten concepts and skills. We are focusing on the proper letter and number formation.
Homework
Homework will be given twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays. Students are expected to return their work the following day unless otherwise stated.
