Welcome to Third Grade 3rd Grade

Hello! I am so happy that you will be a student in my class this year. I look forward to meeting you and learning about you. I hope you’ve had a great summer and that you are getting excited about third grade. Third grade is an important year filled with challenging work and exciting possibilities. We will have many opportunities to share things we know and learn from one another. I hope this will be a very special year for you!

This is Mrs. M’s twentieth year teaching third grade in the Madison school system. I have lived in town for thirty years. I have three daughters…Jennifer, Julie, and Jamie who are all grown up. I have an adorable grandson named Henry who is almost three and a beautiful granddaughter named Madelyn who is seven months old. I live with my Standard Poodle, Maggie, and my Shihapoo, Roxy. They are really fun and keep me busy. I love UCONN basketball and am a Yankees fan. I enjoy reading and the beach.

If you’re going shopping before school starts, here is a list of basic supplies. If you’ve already purchased supplies that don’t match the list, don’t worry. Just bring what you have.

  • A marble composition notebook
  • Crayons, colored pencils or markers
  • 2 pencils
  • 2 sturdy folders
  • A glue stick
  • A box of tissues
  • A pencil box or case

Please remember to bring a healthy snack and a book that you are reading. If you’re not reading a book right now, start thinking about the kinds of books you like to read. We can look through the class library to find a good one for you. Two books that I read this summer that you might enjoy are Rules by Cynthia Lord and Attack of the Turtle by Drew Carlson if you like historical fiction. They are both Nutmeg nominees for 2010.

I would like you to bring a picture of yourself taken this summer for our bulletin board. I can’t wait to hear about the interesting activities and adventures you had on your vacation.

Enjoy the rest of your vacation. I will be busy getting our room ready. I am very excited for school to begin and hope you are too!

See you on August 27th!

Fondly,
Mrs. Manganello
