Mrs. Signore’s Class

December Newsletter

Dear Parents, Please note some of what we have been learning about:

Science- We had a visit from Whitney Waterworks to learn about pollution and water. We learned about non-point source and point source pollution. We will be doing a mini-unit on soggy paper to determine if napkins, paper towels or tissues are more absorbent and which brand of paper towels are most absorbent.

Reading: The students are enjoying reciting poems and memorizing them. This is helping them to develop a joy of reading, fluency and expression. We continue to work on written response in guided reading. Our reading skills this month include comparing and contrasting, making predictions and word meaning in context to help us understand what we are reading.

Math: We are learning about fractions including making fair shares, finding equivalent fractions, comparing fractions, pattern blocks as fractions and visualizing fractions. Our second unit this month will be analyzing data including reading, comparing, interpreting, extracting from and creating bar graphs. This will help us graph our data from our soggy water unit in science.
